The UAE National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2025 Successfully Concluded
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s largest and most prestigious moot court competition, bringing together law students from across the globe to simulate proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Established in 1960, the competition has grown to include participants from over 100 countries, making it a cornerstone of legal education for aspiring international lawyers.
Since 2022, Ali Masoudian has served as the National Administrator of Jessup in both Iran and the UAE, working to expand the competition’s reach and impact in the region. This year, he successfully organized the UAE National Rounds of Jessup 2025, hosted at the American University in the Emirates (AUE) in Dubai). The competition saw a high level of advocacy from participating teams, reflecting their dedication and rigorous preparation.
The 2025 UAE National Rounds featured two competing teams: one from the University of Sharjah and the other from Middlesex University Dubai. Both teams demonstrated a high level of advocacy, showcasing their dedication and rigorous preparation throughout the competition. After intense rounds of oral pleadings and thorough evaluations, Team No. 691 from Middlesex University emerged as the winner and has now been invited to compete in the International Rounds.
The event’s success was made possible through the efforts of Prof. Amer Fakhoury and the AUE team, who provided outstanding organizational support, and the generous sponsorship of White & Case LLP, which played a key role in ensuring the competition’s smooth execution.
As preparations begin for Jessup 2026, Ali Masoudian remains committed to increasing participation and enhancing moot court training in the UAE. Among the future initiatives being considered is the establishment of a Moot Court Summer School, aimed at further strengthening students’ advocacy skills and preparing them for international legal competitions.
